Avoiding the Christmas Crush

Christmas is the worst time to buy things. It may seem like lunacy, but purchasing your Christmas gifts in January and February is the least expensive way to load up on gifts. Retailers make a great deal of money based on the emotional desires of Christmas shoppers. People like to be a part of the annual societal rush to buy up massive amounts of stuff every holiday season. Some people really get excited running up credit card balances every winter and then spending the next few months working off Christmas turkey and debt with usurious amounts of interest.
Space out your shopping over a few months so that you can avoid incurring a lot of debt. You'll be able to take advantage of post-Christmas sales and enable yourself to avoid paying high interest debt. The best places to shop after Christmas aren't always online - vendors with massive warehouses don't place as much of a premium on clearance as physical retailers, so they aren't quite as desperate to get rid of their inventory.
Seasonal purchases like warm clothing and appliances like snow blowers should always be purchased during the warm months, and the reverse is true for spring and summer related items. Thinking long term in your shopping will help you enjoy a better quality of life. Getting yourself out of debt will give you a greater peace of mind, but it doesn't mean that you have to live like a monk. You just have to shop intelligently and with thought towards the long term consequences of your purchasing habits.
